EASY TO BE BRAVE

It is easy to be brave from a safe distance but you miss so much of life that way.  The joy of travel is priceless and attainable and much more interesting than experiencing the world from an armchair. One should choose to live life fully, to be part of a greater, more splendid universe. Although lions are dangerous when hungry or feel threatened, they prefer to live a peaceful life.  Proper precautions ensure safe passage.

CHAMELEON

The chameleon is a shape-shifter, able to blend in with his surroundings at will.  While a useful attribute in times of strife, it can be difficult to know where his allegiances lie as he changes to fit the situation.  He is a mysterious character often hiding his true self from the world.

AFFAIRES DE COEUR

Affairs of the Heart are often unexpected, unexplainable and usually unrequited.  But they can also be unbelievably uplifting and do not have to be painful.  They should be savoured and enjoyed for what they are and for as long as they last.  For as you move into that long winter, memories may be all that sustain you.

ALWAYS BE YOURSELF

Always be yourself unless you can be a dragon.  For dragons are fierce and loyal and smart and they are not afraid of anyone or anything.  Dragons often symbolize the struggle between good and evil and are associated with wisdom, strength and the creative forces of nature.  But mostly they are the stuff of imagination and fantasy and should be there for moral support as you experience the world on your own terms.

SAFE IN THE HARBOUR

A ship is safe in the harbor but that’s not what ships are for.  The same applies to children.  They must be allowed to experience moments of vulnerability and self-discovery as they grow and learn.  For it is only in experience that wisdom comes.

TRUE MUSES STAY DREAMS FOREVER

True Muses stay dreams forever unless artists connect them to exploratory work – Robert Genn.  The Muses have always been with me but I feel I am now doing the exploratory work required to give form to the thoughts.  The figures remain central but the abstracted spaces they inhabit are new to me and oh so exciting!  I am off to Japan shortly to soak up Japanese art and culture and then to a workshop with New York Art Students League instructor Max Ginsburg.  Not sure how this will affect my art but am looking forward to seeing where the muses take me.
